Think Positive!

Thursday, August 10, 2017

Is the glass half empty or half full? How we view life has a direct effect upon our quality of life. According to the Mayo Clinic there are some benefits of positive thinking:

  • Increased life span
  • Lower rates of depression
  • Greater resistance to the common cold
  • Reduced risk of death from cardiovascular disease
  • Better coping skills during hardship

We must discipline the mind to focus on the positive, see the beauty in life and harness its power to generate positive solutions. Through the practice of seeing the glass half full, we can identify false beliefs that need to be eliminated, which will clear the way for motivation, freedom, and growth.

Another stumbling block we often face to having positive thoughts is fear of failure. For some of us, it's paralyzing. It cripples us from giving something an honest try, because we don't want failure to define us.

Let's agree today upon a powerful truth - that our greatest advancements are on the other side of failure. How do we know our limits unless we push them? How will we discover new insights unless we see failure as a friend not a foe? Failure is a necessary step to growth and greatness. My greatest advancements have come from failure.

Let'sawaken to possibility by periodically evaluating our self-talk.Give yourself time to practice and room to grow without being too harsh. Being intentional about positive thinking allows yourself room to move forward without the barriers of perfectionism or negativity to squash your progress.

Surround yourself with positive people to change the way you think.Modeling ourselves after encouraging peers we respect is one of the easiest ways to get a leg-up in the battle against negative thoughts. And exercise! I wish I could convey to you the importance of a brisk run, or a challenging mountain bike ride to eliminate tension and gain mental refreshment. It is something I've built into my daily routine.

The key to positive thinking is to understand how our physical and mental states are interconnected. How our minds perform is also an indication of what's in our hearts. As stated in Romans 12:2 "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." Think anew, and anticipate great results.

To your excellence in pursuing positive thoughts,
